2006 Pirate Cookout
Despite a little rain and the threat of thunderstorms, the 2006 TYC cruising season got off to a great start at Flat Hammock. A number of hearty sailors made the trip to flat hammock enjoying the barbeque and having a good time. The highlight of the day was the pirate’s treasure hunt where teams had to complete a scavenger hunt on the island before they could get a treasure map that lead to buried treasure on the island.
The top prize was the coveted "golden whale burgee". For those of you not familiar with the whale, it is a special TYC burgee that is awarded on a temporary basis at cruising events. Holders of the whale may proudly fly the burgee until the next cruising event where it will be awarded to another member. The winner and first holder of the golden whale is Greg Reese on Billirena.
While all of the participants searched hard to find the treasure, one chest was never found and still lies buried on the island to this day. If you’re in for a quest, you may dig on the small beach on the north-east end of the island.
